SOCIAL MEDIA CHAIR
SOCIAL MEDIA CHAIR
The Social Media Chair is responsible for the dissemination of information to the membership of the chapter and the public as the Board shall direct. The following positions report to the Social Media Chair: Newsletter Editor and Broadcast E-mails. Social Media Chair may hold one or more of these positions.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Accept responsibilities and duties as assigned by Chapter President and/or Board of Directors
- Coordinate dissemination of information to the membership and the public.
- Social Media
- Social Media (facebook and twitter etc.) can be a tool to:
- Direct members or prospective members to the chapter website
- Recruit new members and volunteers
- Keep members informed in a timely manner about upcoming chapter events, volunteer opportunities and legislative activities
- Create a sense of community with members who don’t attend chapter meetings
- Create a presence with consumers
- Engage in discussions
- Increase involvement with your chapter and the profession
- Provide a free value-added communication method for members, increasing the member benefits offered by your chapter
- Engage various audiences that use Facebook regularly
- Facebook is easy, fun, and FREE.
- THE NEWSLETTER EDITOR:
- Develop and submit to the chapter board, a publication schedule (including issue dates and due dates for copy submissions) and budget for the coming year.
- Identify topics and issues to be covered in the publication.
- Solicit articles from chapter board members, committee chairs, the chapter membership and outside contributors, as appropriate.
- Edit articles for compliance with AMTA mission, goals, strategic plan and chapter objectives.
- Supervise the work of outside suppliers and/or chapter volunteers in the layout, production and distribution of the publication.
- Solicit advertising, within AMTA advertising guidelines, to help offset publication costs.
- Stay current with changes in postal rates and procedures to ensure the cost-effective distribution of the publication.
- BROADCAST E-MAIL
- Broadcast e-mail refers to the ability to maintain a subscriber list of e-mail addresses and send messages to parts of or the entire list. Chapters should not send broadcast e-mails using common e-mail programs, such as Microsoft Outlook, as this violates ethical e-mail delivery guidelines and can be seen as spam. Use a standard e-mail marketing system designed for mass mailing. The system needs to be web-based and offer a one-click unsubscribe option. The unsubscribe or “opt-out” option is a requirement of federal anti-spam laws.
- It’s a good idea to use a template for e-mail messages. When using templates:
- Ensure that it’s clean and uncluttered.
- Your chapter’s or AMTA’s logo and your chapter’s name should be prominently displayed, so members easily recognize that it’s from the association.
- Consider incorporating graphics from your website, for consistency and recognition.
- Since not all e-mail recipients are able to open messages in HTML, it’s best to also send the message in text only, so that it’s compatible with the option each recipient has selected.
- Before sending broadcast e-mails, chapters must obtain member e-mail addresses from the Chapter Relations Department to ensure they have the most current contact information and are in compliance with our members’approval to receive e-mails from AMTA.
Eligibility: Must be a professional member in good standing.
Term of Service: Appointed positions will be for a term of one (1) year or until successors are appointed.
Vacancy & Succession: A vacancy may be filled by appointment by the Chapter President with the approval of the Chapter Board at any regular or special meeting or by email ballot.
Removal from Office
Any chair may be removed from appointed position for failure to:
- Fulfill her/his duties and responsibilities (dereliction of duties).
- Abide by the National AMTA Bylaws, Policy, Job Description, Chapter Volunteer Code of Conduct, Chapter Standing Rules, Financial Policies and Procedures.
- Keep AMTA membership dues current.
Authority: This position has no authority to act on behalf of AMTA or the Chapter to enter into contracts or agreements or to commit Chapter funds.
Accountability: The Social Media Chair is accountable to the Chapter Board by virtue of appointment and reports to the Chapter President or designated supervising Vice President.
Other Points to Note:
- All AMTA correspondence is privileged and ONLY goes to board members unless the board agrees that something has need to be shared with others. This is absolute. Please do not share anything that is said on this board unless you know that the board wants it to be shared.
- All reports, including resignations, come only to the President, who then can have conversations to update, correct, or call with questions before sharing with the rest of the board. This is for any reporting that you are responsible for and includes things that are to go to National. They should come to the President first and not be sent out to national or others until confirmed by the President.
